Around The House:: Spring Breaking

zip line!

This week Chad’s building a zip line over our pond. He installed one ten years ago at our last house. But this one is over 300 feet long. Clearly he still has to build the platform…

Y’all, my cat had four kittens!

I didn’t even realize she was pregnant until about 10 days ago–she’s super fluffy and I just thought she was getting a little fat….

I painted this table. It started out black years ago. Then I painted it robin’s egg blue. But it just wasn’t right in the barn. So I grabbed what I had which was just a light baby blue….

…and I hated it…three bottles of navy acrylic paint for $1.50 total and now I have a nice navy table…

Chad had to work so I took the boys on an overnight spring break trip.

If you follow me on instagram you might have seen that I gave them a budget and they made every decision from what city we visited, what we did, where we ate, what time we left and came home. I highly recommend doing this if you children are old enough. We went to Atlanta and once again I was reminded of how much fun it is to have teenage boys.

And this week I’m working in the Barn getting it all ready for Mantime this weekend!

  1. A zipline. In your yard. Epic!! But, what really caught my eye was the table you painted. I have one almost the same, except mine has wrought iron legs. You have solved my debate about painting or not! Now I just have to find the perfect red!

  6. How fun! Those kittens look so adorable. P.S. I love how the navy blue table turned out. Great job.

  7. You always inspire me to PLAY!!! with my house and property and decor… and I always wind up looking around my home like a kid in a candy store again… and now I have even more ideas! Thanks!

  8. It looks like you may have good weather for spring break. My kids are on spring break this week and it looks like rain all week. The zip line you husband is building looks like it is going to be loads of fun. It looks like you you children will have lots to do over spring break.

  9. Looks like you guys are having a great week and love the idea of letting your boys handle the trip details! Super fun! Happy Tuesday, friend! xo

  10. I love reading about your family and specifically time with those boys. I would love to read more posts on parenting and how that all fits in with work! hint, hint. :)

  11. Love the navy choice on the table. Stunning!

  12. That zip line looks amazing!! A platform would be awesome!!

  13. Please, please, please get that kitty (and her babies) fixed. I beg of you.

  14. I am reading your book right now and I love it! I read your blog in years past but got busy with life and 3 little kids, but finally got to your book. I love to decorate however my “problems” with my house seemed overwhelming. We are messy. And your slogan, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful, didn’t apply because I thought, but it does have to be clean to be beautiful. But hello! Thank you for helping me to appreciate my mess and where I am in life. And to be honest about it. Grateful for the Lords call on your life and your ability to share it with us. Freedom for me to share my mess! Actually, just wrote a post recently about it-
    thank you!

  15. ManTime! I clearly need to check in here more often because this was the first I’ve heard of ManTime! Gonna be on the look out for the next ManTime gathering for Lee! :)

And your kittens! So cute! I’m deathly allergic to cats, so I admire them greatly from afar. Pictures of kittens are the best! :)

    Miss you, friend!

  16. Sounds like a splendid weekend! Happy Easter!

Great job on the coffee table… I have a furniture painting project waiting for me, and I just might be inspired to do it now. :)

  17. LOVING your barn! I think I could come over and stay awhile, no problem. Reading your blog (and seeing your pins on Pinterest!) is giving me SO many ideas for our new home, which we’re currently renovating.

Thanks for writing your book… my Mom bought it and lent it to me… I’m feeling like I need my own copy just to read over and over again. It was (is) such a blessing to me to see how you aren’t afraid to DIY your way through renting and making the space work for you!

  18. SOOOOO love the sons-planned trip! My boys are gonna love you for that idea!!!

  19. A zip-line! I’m so jealous. If I come to a conference at the barn, can I go on the zip-line?!

  20. Just an FYI on cats, they are more prolific than rabbits and if you don’t spay your cat, she will likely be giving birth again in 6 weeks or so.

  21. I love that navy table! I think you may have inspired me to try it in my living room!

  22. Please get the kitties and the momma cat spayed/neutered. Please, please, please.Yes, the momma cat can get pregnant again in 6 weeks or less. Clearly, there is an un-neutered male somewhere. Be a responsible pet owner.

  23. I agree with Sylvia when your cats roam outside it is best to have them neutered. I love the barn, it looks great.

  24. I love it all and how fun was the trip with your boys!!
    The bran renovation is amazing!!

50,000 dogs and cats are born each day. An estimated 30-60% of these animals will be euthanized due to overpopulation.

Please spay and neuter your animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Spay and neuter!

  27. Hi – I finally got your book – i live in canada and our bookstore took forever to get it in stock – and i just wanted to let you know that your book was one of those God gifts. Just what I needed at just the right time in my life. Thanks.

  28. Kittens! Love them. We are actually looking to adopt one and we live in Charlotte area if you are not keeping all of them! So sweet.

  29. I’m a huge animal lover. However I also beg you to get your Mama and her babies fixed, We live on a farmette in WI and had a feral Mama show up and have a litter of 6 kittens (5 of which were female). We worked with animal rescues to get everyone fixed but two eluded several rounds of live trapping and each had a litter. That one Mama turned into ONLY 18 cats in less than 2 years…that number would have been exponentially more if we hadn’t worked diligently to get the majority fixed. The ones that were too feral to be domesticated reside happily on our farm, we ended up with several house cats and several were adopted out. I try to educate people of the huge devastating and heartbreaking problem of unwanted animals, overpopulation, strays and ferals. One unspayed female can have 2-3 litters per year with 4-6 kittens per litter…her offspring can start having litters at 6 months so the numbers are staggering. Rescues and shelters are often overwhelmed and many of these animals are euthanized. Please spay or neuter your pets and encourage others to do so as well. While kittens and puppies are adorable, consider volunteering at a shelter, rescue or fostering and/or adopting them instead.
