a sponsored post with Serena & Lily, sharing some updates I made for summer

We call this the side porch but really, it turns the front corner of our house and wraps around two full sides of the house. There’s always a steady breeze and it’s the perfect place for a nap.

When we first moved here there were a pair of old, rotten ceiling fans that I couldn’t wait to switch out with fun, pretty lights.

Then seven years passed by as we fixed up the more desperate rooms inside.

Finally, I found my dream lighting and said goodbye to those old fans.

And once again, I was surprised at how much power a signature light fixture has in transforming a space.

A pair of the Large Headlands Bell Pendants look like they were made for this porch. They come in natural and black, but I wanted a super high contrast since they are viewed against the white ceiling. I like to say ‘Contrast is queen if you want to be seen‘, and this is proof!

When our double doors are open onto the porch, you can see everything from the kitchen. I love how the statement light draws you outside.

Here’s the front corner of our wrap-around porch. I bought this hanging rattan chair last year and I love how it makes my land-locked home in North Carolina feel all tropical and beachy.

The lighting in our bedroom was another non-emergency that got pushed aside while we finished other projects.

When we moved in we added this round wood fixture to replace the old ceiling fan. I loved the shape, but, we ended up keeping lots of wood in this room: floors, doors, dressers, window trim and wood blinds.

When it came time to update the lighting, I wanted something that would work with our masculine (yet still feminine) room. I knew I wanted a sphere shape, and I was also looking for a little glam and shine to balance out all the matte, masculine textures.

This Capiz Honecomb Chandelier was the perfect match. I opted for the smaller size since we have eight foot ceilings. It hangs over the end of the bed so we’re able to hang it lower without worrying about hitting our head on it. I love how it almost feels like a lighter version of a disco ball.

Right now all lighting is on sale at Serena & Lily (ends 6/22/20), here are a few of my favorite things:
