Small Things, Big Change

little changes that make a big difference

Y’all, my office is moving right along. And even though it was motivating to do the big huge things like a new/old door and fresh paint on the floor, ceiling and walls, there’s nothing like putting out a smattering of pretty, meaningful things to make a big huge change. Finally, this office feels like it’s mine.

I can hang things!!! I cannot exaggerate how fun it’s been to start girlifing this room with all of my pink and blue stuff! It’s been packed away for way too long and I’ve collected a few other things to add to the girlie office feel. All I did was shop the house (actually the barn, and the trees) for anything I could use together in a vingette.

I needed a place to set stuff right inside the office door so I grabbed my old yard sale library table and started layering stuff on there. I needed a lamp, a place to set stuff like my phone and bag and my jewelery that I always seem to strip off. And of course I wanted it to be fun and creative and inspiring.

all by grace plate

The first thing I did was prop up my old painting so I knew where to start a random, layered plate wall. I love this little “all by grace’ dessert plate created by DaySpring for (in)courage (friends of Nesting Place and sponsor of this post). It actually was the starting point for the entire wall.

bradford pears

My office is ready for decorating right in time for the Bradford Pears!

On the table I used a salad plate (shhhh) and a sugar bowl to be a landing zone for my phone and other non manly items that are in the house. No bullets, remotes or bottle caps in this space! These little dishes are just a tiny part of an entire new line of dishes called Daily Grace collection. But even split apart they have many uses. The little square salad plate would look sweet hanging on a girl’s wall. Stack a journal and a nice pen on the dish and tie with a ribbon for a great gift.

I’m so thrilled with my little ahhhh moment in my office. I love how small, easy changes can have such a big impact.

daily grace

Take a look at the new Daily Grace collection with all sorts of surprising pieces from salad bowls, trays, butter dishes to tea pots and memo boards with chalk board labels, it’s one of my favorite lines EVER from DaySpring and (in)courage and I heard a rumor they have more collections coming soon!

  1. Now look what you’ve done….inspired me to work on my office…again! Pretty!

  2. Those colors are just beautiful. I know it is wonderful to sit in your office and get some work done. Especially with it being your very own space w/o the boys! :)

  3. Looking beautiful! Huge transformation. Plant a prunus mume (flowering apricot/Chinese plum) now, so you can have at least equally beautiful blooms at the same time of year without the foeted smell (Bradfords smell like rotting flesh because they are pollinated by flies).

  4. This space is right up my alley and I love everything you’ve done from the plate wall, to your beautiful painting, right down to the organization. I’m pinning this right now because I’m in love.

  5. Oh my dear goodness, now I’ve said oh my dear goodness twice today and both in relation to your beautiful office! I swooned over the FB photo and now I’m checking under the couch cushions to find money to buy some of those dishes! :)

  9. Gorgeous! Those colors are perfectly girly! You and your plate walls have inspired me to do a white plate wall in my living room. I wasn’t sure plates would work anywhere outside a kitchen or dining room but you have convinced me!

  10. So pretty. Love every little detail!

  11. So pretty. I’ve been hunting for gifts for my bridesmaids for my upcoming wedding and one of my girls would just love some of this serving ware!

  15. That boot vase is amazing! I love it. You are inspiring me to bring in some Bradford Pear Sprigs for our mantel – they look so pretty!!! I just wish my allergies loved them as much as my eyes.

    • You’ll be sorry. Bradford Pears may look pretty, but they smell awful.

      • not sorry! they are totally worth the smell to have spring inside for me! not for everyone but I’ve done it for years :) I have a nose of steal, must be from raising three boys!!

  16. I heart this space. Big time. That peachy and blue combo is one of my new favorites. I kinda want to do it everywhere!

p.s. so darn excited, I preordered your book. April can’t come soon enough!

  20. It looks beautiful!! But, umm… how does it smell? The Bradford Pears in my yard have a rather unpleasant odor. Makes me think of a post from a while back at The Lettered Cottage:
    Funny! :)

    • I just read Danielle’s comment above about how they smell like rotted flesh because they’re pollinated by flies… EWWW!!! :) LOL!

      • yep they smell, but so far the room doesn’t stink, just when you walk right by them, I’ve cut them from different places for years and it’s worth it to me to have so pretty and put up with a little stink!

  21. I’m loving how you used that ZGallery boot umbrella stand as a vase!! I love a gal who who’s not afraid to bend the “rules” :)
