I’ve talked about my dear, sweet, kindred spirit friend, Angela often over the years.  She’s my yard sale partner, my thrifting buddy, our craft day teacher, my coffee table painter, my HELP-my-house-is-getting-photographed-and-I-need-someone-to-be-my-slave-and-keep-me-calm-friend, my conference roommate and confidant, my fellow conference speaker at Becoming.  She’s one of my closest friends and one of the most fearless, creative people I’ve ever met. She has no idea how much she inspires me.

Every time I walk into her home I don’t even hear her talking for the first three minutes because I’m too busy looking around at all the creative things she’s done.  Even if it’s just been a week since I’ve been there? Still something fun to look at.

Those  photos are just of her foyer and the entrance to her craft room/office. She is the QUEEN of mixing colors and patterns.  There is no one better.

Here’s where Angela creates.  I could spend hours looking around in here.  She has a huge bin just for buttons.  Every inch has something to offer but it’s also really organized.

On the front of her desk is an inspiring quote that quite possibly should be on the front of everyone’s desk in the entire world::

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Many of the items in her home were salvaged, thirfted, yard-saled and then made more beautiful by Angela.  Everyone that knows her knows that she’s an artist and can make something amazing out of practically nothing.  She says lots of times her neighbors drop stuff off at her house that they no longer want and then she turns it into something so lovely that you are shocked.

Yep, she painted all of that furniture.   Also, have you noticed her artwork?

Angela has taught me to NEVER pass up the framed art section in a thrift store.  She has the MOST glorious collection of  artwork most of which is original paintings.

It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

I asked Angela for a tip to create a layered, lovely, happy home like hers.  The first thing she said::

” I only buy things that make me smile”
