Using Chalkboard in Your Home :: A Linky

Remember my chalkboard fireplace surround with the drawn on bricks? I still love it.

Well, I had this little cabinet.  Just imagine a big pink rose painted where the blue paint is.  Yeah.  Then I added a pretty clothes pin.

My mom added chalkboard onto the inside of the cabinet–it’s the peel and stick kind I used for the fireplace. It really ups the usefulness factor on this little wall cabinet.

I put some of it inside our kitchen cabinet too.  You could put chalkboard inside your medicine cabinet, armoire, closet, you could line the back of your hutch with it and draw on designs.  Peel and stick is great for us renters.

Oh and I love this chalkboard back splash from domino–I think I would draw bricks, or polka dots, or rainbows…I wonder if I could put the peel and stick up over my current pink tile back splash?  It would make the kitchen more my style.

I thought it would be fun to see how some of you have used chalkboard in your home–I know so many of you have!  I’d love for you to link up with MckLinky if you have a post about it, this is totally spur of the moment, no worries if it is an old post.

By the way, if you don’t want to make one of your own, that little cabinet is available on ebay, along with some other wonderful items like…

  1. I don’t have a backsplash right now–love that chalkboard one. Hmm……

  2. I don’t have a blog post about it, but all through high school, I had one whole chalkboard wall in my room. My Mom saw the chalkboard paint and thought it was the coolest thing. We were going to do just a small square and ended up painting the whole wall. I LOVED it! All my friends thought it was the neatest thing when they’d come over and visit. I still love thinking about some of the notes my friends wrote me on my chalkboard wall!

  3. What a great spontaneous party! Mine is an OLD post, that came with me from my Six in the Country days… reposted on this blog.

    ♥ ♥ ♥

  4. I have a small vinyl business, and cut a 40 x 40 calendar out of chalk board vinyl! I LOVE it! Just a quick look and I know what the heck’s going on! And with 5 kids, there’s usually something for me to remember!

  5. I haven’t jumped on the chalkboard bandwagon yet. Here’s why…my kids have had easels with chalkboards on them and they DROVE ME NUTS with all the chalk dust everywhere. Is there a secret to minimizing the chalk dust mess? I’d love to have the chalkboard surfaces but if I do, of course the kids will want to draw.
What say you folks with the chalkboards?

  6. Oh, I can’t wait to see all the uses for chalkboard! I linked mine!

  7. What a fun party, I’m off to see everyone’s chalkboards. They are all the rage right now! I love the one inside the cabinet, very handy, and how about that backsplash…that is CRAZY COOL!!! Janell

  8. Let me first say your blog is always such an inspiration. By far, one of my favorites.

I have the same little cabinet and was thinking of adding wallpaper to the outside of the door to cover a paint design that I don’t like. However, I think I may chalkboard it now. It is going in my kid’s bath and I think this would be the perfect place to write little love notes to them. Thanks for the idea!!!

I am also in the process of painting my son’s room, which was orange with bigger than lifesized superheros on the walls. One wall is now maroon, two side walls are gray, and the opposite wall is chalkboard. I haven’t started the chalkboard yet but it will be done this weekend hopefully. Can’t wait.

  9. Love it all!!

  10. peel and stick? where does one purchase that?

    • There are lots of etsy shops that sell it, or if you click the link to my fireplace surround {the first one on the post} it takes you to the post about the fireplace where you can find a link to Wall Candy Arts–I used to be an affliate with them.

  11. How fun! My post is an old one. I really wanted to find a way to have more scripture in our home, so this was an easy (and pretty) fix! I was just thinking the other day about making some small chalkboards for the kids’ rooms. I can’t wait to get some ideas from your party!

  12. I’m out of town and can’t snap a picture of my kids playroom, but I used chalkboard paint in there. We painted a large rectacle with it on the wall and then painted a cute frame around it. I wasn’t sure how realistic chalkboard paint would be, but it’s awesome! Just like an actual chalk board. And they LOVE it!!! :)

  13. I saw this yesterday on the cutest blog, and I think it’s relevant to this post. She make all sorts of cute things, but this clock is awesome!

    • Ok…cutest blog doesn’t even describe it!! What an adorable and creative girl!!
and I didn’t even get to her shop yet…I’m thinking the clocks would be incredible lined up several in a horizontal row like business sometimes have with different time zones…except I’m thinking our zones would be a little more fun than ‘central standard’

  14. My post is an oldie as well. I used a paint marker and made three columns an old chalkboard: “Menu,” “Shopping,” and “Chores.” I attached it to my refrigerator with 3M Command strips.

No more “Mom, what’s for dinner?”

  15. We “inherited” a chalkboard wall when we bought our house. I might scurry off and take some photos and share them – it’s not your usual chalkboard wall and room, that’s for sure!

  16. I’ve awarded you the Beautiful Blogger Award. Totally deserved!

  17. I am loving the blackboard backsplash idea! I currently have white tile (and a few with herbs on them – they came with the house – lovely). Do you think I could paint the tile with chalkboard paint? Have you ever heard of anyone doing that?

  18. I don’t think I have a post to add, yet. But ironically, I’m having a chalkboard decal giveaway on my blog right now!

  19. Thanks for hosting, Nester. :) I am having problems with blogger today, and will add your link to my post (an old one) as soon as it will let me. :)

  20. I absolutely love the chalk board back splash. Oh, I just might do it. I have a rental and that limits what I can and cannot do. This would be a perfect compromise. I’m giddy with excitement!

  21. So many chalkboard goodies. I need to get started. These ideas are great for someone who doesn’t have a whole wall to dedicate to a chalkboard. Now I need to choose a few of my favorites. Not easy with all these great ideas.

  22. Thanks Nester! So FUN!!!

  23. I love that you answer our questions! Thank you. It’s so nice!

  24. oh how i love an impromptu party!
    love ya,

  25. I check out your blog all the time – fabulous!! I have a new blog and this is the 1st time i have ever linked up to anyone, but this is a fun party and i just finished painting all the walls in the kids playroom with chalkboard – so fun!!! cant wait to see everyone elses ideas :)

  26. I adore chalkboard! I want to add it to everything. Oddly, I can’t stand touching chalk!

  27. I saw a post about 3-4 months ago that someone did on chalkboarding their refrigerator! I was hoping she would link up here because I never have been able to find it again! Let me know if I maybe missed it!

  28. OK…I win most annoying fan with most posts of the day!! But I just realized that you have white shutters above the fireplace…L-O-ve it!!

  29. I love the chalkboard backsplash! I was just thinking a little earlier that I need to do something new (and black) in my kitchen & this may be perfect. Thanks for the idea!

  30. Hello,
I love all the chalk boards you featured. I love how you have one on the inside of your cupboard door. Very clever!
I sure miss the Domino Magazine. Love the photo you chose!
I have an orange framed chalk board in my dining room. I actually put the link to it up above.
    Take Care,

  31. Hello again,
I actually added it again, because I didn’t see my link, if I did it twice sorry! Couldn’t find it so wasn’t sure if I did it right!
    Take Care,

  32. Oh my goodness! Have you read the latest entry in Melissa’s blog:

Melissa’s father-in-law died yesterday but Melissa couldn’t be bothered to travel with her husband Chad to be with his father, even though they knew he was going to die this week.

Worse than not being bothered to see her father-in-law, Melissa has been blogging about going shopping, going to lunch with her girlfriends, going to the gym, etc. rather than being at her husband’s side.

Melissa says she can’t travel a few hours by car to visit her dying father in law because she is pregnant. What the heck? How can you NOT travel to see your dying father-in-law but you can go to the gym?? go shopping?? and go out to lunch??

Now Melissa says she can’t even be bothered to go to the poor man’s funeral. Too busy going to the gym, I guess?

How many of you girls out there would not go and visit your father-in-law if you knew he only had a few days left on this earth? How many of you would leave your husband alone to watch his father die? How many of you would rather go shopping and go to the gym than go to your father-in-law’s funeral?

I am just astonished at how cold, un-Godly and cruel this woman is. Incredible.

    • I think my Bible says something about not judging others and that all judgment should be left up to God. Does yours say something different?

  33. Dear Nester,
Genius as usual! How can you read my mind? This week in a catalog, I saw a cabinet with a chalkboard front and hooks for keys. It is just what I need for my entryway, but it was too country-ish for my decor. Now I know that I can just find a cabinet and make my own. You are the awesome-ist!

  34. I LOVE this post! My husband and I want to put up some chalkboards in our home. I’m excited now because you’ve given me a ton of great ideas!

  35. I don’t have a photo of mine, but I found an MDF-type board, cut into a beautiful shape, on clearance at a “home store.” It was a little girl pink, with an initial “S” painted on. I knew when I saw it that it should be a chalkboard. I used the paint-on type, but I think it will work just fine!
