Kind of.
We’re building a tiny house structure in the spirit of our barn gathering space here on our property.
So yep, it will be on wheels and we’ll be driving to 8 cities this fall to bring this mini barn on the book tour, but nope, it’s not the kind of tiny house we’ll stay in. There’s no bathroom, no bed–it’s one “large” room, just like the barn, Cozy Minimalized for us to get to hang out in with you.
My inspiration:
This tiny shop, The Krewe Tiny House is major inspiration for our little barn on wheels. Like it, we’ll have wood doors and shutters–y’all Jesse Hoover from JH Craftsman is CUSTOM BUILDING our double doors and all of our wood shutters!
The wood adds a nice balance to all the white, and the shutters help keep the windows and the glass (or in our case plexiglass in the doors) super protected because they close when we travel.
The Tiny Texas Embassy is another tiny shop that’s been inspirational. This is a HUGE tiny shop, but still captures the spirit of what we are hoping to create with the black metal roof, white exterior and wood accents.
This shot from Handcrafted Movement is closer to the size of our tiny/cozy barn. Ours is 20’x8′ and will be board and batten on the outside similar to this one.
If we feel like we need a bit of color on the outside, I might opt for this subtle gray/green shutter color seen on Rachael Hall Taravella’s home.
But I won’t be deciding that until the exterior is finished.
Here’s what our little tiny cozy barn looked like after two days of work. Our old sawmill structure happened to be the perfect height to shelter the build.
Here we are after one week of work. There will be windows-they are framed on the inside, but they won’t be cut out until later.
This is what the inside looks like currently, after a week of work. We put the mantel (found at The Depot) in so I could mark off where the two wall sconces should go.
Our current builders are my husband Chad, in the red, and our friends Caleb–a local builder and owner of Adam David Homes, John–a teacher, and Toby a contractor/builder from Minnesota, the boss of this entire project. We originally met Toby when he came to the first Mantime (an event my husband hosts) and now he’s become a good enough friend that we fly him down from Minnesota and force him to help us with projects like this. Sean also came and did the electrical stuff for us.
Toby will be back in a few weeks and work will resume on our little barn.

I’m so thrilled to take a tiny version of hospitality on the road. In my dream world, I never have to leave my house. And I LOVE hosting 1000 of you here every fall for Nest Fest. But, I know some of you will never be able to come out here to North Carolina, so taking this tiny version of the barn to you to celebrate the release of Cozy Minimalist Home feels just right.
