31 Days :: A Writing Challenge, Every October, Every Day

31 days

Every day for years–I think six years now, I’ve hosted a 31 Day writing challenge in October. Thousands of you have joined in and taken the challenge to write on your blog, on one topic every day in the month of October. Consider this your formal invitation to join 31 Days this year.

Writing for 31 Days on one topic has helped my writing so much. Three of my topics from three different years were directly related to chapters in my book–31 Days helped me start the work and hear from you about what I missed, what I got wrong and what I got right.

And this year, I’m passing the torch, this year, my dear friend, Crystal will be the new hostess of 31 Days! I’m so thrilled that this community will be cared for by such a brilliant woman who has such a big heart for online communities. A big heart for 31 Days.

You’ll be encouraged and heard and I cannot wait to see how she grows this community.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be taking the year off from writing every day in October, but I look forward to joining in again in the future.

I’d love for you to go meet Crystal, check out the 31 Days site (be sure to leave your email address so you’ll be in the loop.) Crystal is even hosting a weekly 31 Days encouragement session on Periscope every Wednesday in September. All of your questions should be answered at the 31 days site. It’s been such a pleasure 31 Daying with you!

  1. Although I’ve never been brave enough to dive into my own 31 Days series, I love seeing what everyone comes up with and reading the ones I can. I’m gonna miss having you host this, but I’m sure you’re passing the torch to capable hands. I’m heading over to meet Crystal now.

  2. Crystal is perfect for this! I will certainly miss reading a series by you, Myquillin! Thanks for inspiring so many with this challenge. It was during a 31 Days series that I wrote in 2012 when I realized the kind of writing that I’m passionate about. Thank you for helping me on my journey in that way.

    • she is perfect for it! Caroline & I took a few months to consider who to offer this too and Crystal was our first choice–I’m so glad she said yes! I’m so glad being a 31 Dayer helped you with your writing!

  3. Yay! Yay that your No led to Crystal’s Yes – can’t wait to see what special touch she brings to 31 days. She is So the perfect person to take over as host – so excited for both of you.

  4. I think I want to cry. I have never participated because I have never posted on my blog. I do have a blog but because it’s not where I want it I just haven’t touched it. So sad, because you have taught me so differently. Anywho, I love your 31 days posts and will miss you. I participated in Crystal’s Creative Basics class. I’m looking forward to this. Thanks for passing us on to someone who will be as passionate and gifted as you have been. I act like you’re leaving the blogging world…sorry :o).

  5. What if I created artwork/illustration every day for 31 days with a caption or short sentences (thus not much writing), do I still qualify to join the party? Just wondering :)

  6. I’ve never managed to finish the whole month. But I’ve gone in with a plan in my head this time. :) I already know the topic, and I’ve downloaded a calendar so I can map out the individual posts next month.

  7. Like Amanda (above) said, I didn’t complete last year’s challenge. but I have a whole new outlook this year. Even though my blog is in the home & garden niche, it’s more garden than home. But, I’ve had an ebook idea brewing and this might be my chance to test it…I think…I might get cold feet at any moment…I think it’s time to break out a little. What do you think?

  8. I did this last year and I’m not even sure how I did it. But it was so good for me…it grew me as a writer and as a person. I have been adamant that I would not do it this year, because of the time commitment. But now, I’m not so sure. I think I hear a still small voice speaking, so I’m going to listen and see what comes of it. Crystal will do an awesome job as host! Thank you both for your commitment and care for this beautiful community. No doubt it will continue to flourish and bless. <3

  9. Nester, thank you for the incredible gift of the 31 Day writing challenge. You’ve been a lovely hostess. You’ll be missed but I know we’re in great hands with Crystal.

  10. Last year I had an incredible experience writing my 31 Days of Faithful Fitness series. I learned so much and met so many fantastic people! I can’t wait to get started this year and already have a topic in mind about tools of hope during depression, a need my readers have expressed. Let’s do this! Crystal, thanks for your willingness to host and share your leadership skills. Nester, I admire your ability to see when the time comes to step aside and honor other time commitments. Those are not easy decisions to make.
