The Linen Settee

tufted settee in black linen

I want to introduce you to the newest addition to the family….room.

tufted bench

I’ve been on the lookout for a low backed bench for a few months. And really, I bought it for our bedroom so I could put it at the end of our bed. It’s been here three weeks and has yet to make it up the stairs. But its thin legs make me nervous for such a trafficy room. We’ll have to see where it ends up.

I had a decent amount of referral credit through Joss & Main so I bought it there. I think I get almost all of my referral credit through pinning random lovely things on Pinterest. If you use the “pin it” button from the Joss & Main site, now they automatically add your referral code so if someone buys, you get a $15 credit. Over time, if you are patient and don’t spend the $15 on a cute pillow, it adds up. And of course, if all you do is pin a ton of Joss & Main stuff everyday, your friends who follow you on Pinterest will hate you and then stop following you, so be smart, pin with honesty only things you truly find inspiring.

Here’s an example of something fabulous I pinned from Joss & Main recently. You can tell it’s from their site because it says “Pinned under pillows (the board I pinned it to) from Joss & Main”. So if someone happens to click from Pinterest and happens to sign up for the first time and happens to make a first purchase, I’ll get a $15 credit–and you will too if you are a Joss & Main member and pin something you love from the pin it button on their site. This method also works for other sites like and One Kings Lane but they don’t automatically add your referral code so you have to take some extra steps to add that.

It’s almost impossible to get a photo of a big black item in front of a huge lit window. Anyway, this is one of the cases where I don’t recommend that you look at flash sale sites to buy this particular item unless you have some store credit, it’s a Skyline piece so amazon carries a very similar piece for $432. One Kings Lane has sold something similar for $599 and the one I bought was $525 from Joss & Main.

Never assume that any one site is always giving you the best deal available on any item. I’ve found really great deals at flash sites, and I’ve seen them charge more for some pieces–just like EVERY place I shop –even the grocery store, some things cost more at certain places at certain times, it’s my job to be a smart shopper and do my research.

And just for fun I went back and looked at my bed, here’s the post from when I bought it, I paid $535 for a queen bed–not just headboard, through Joss & Main, at the time Amazon was selling it for $880.

Today, it depends on the color you want from Amazon…(now that I look at it, I think mine is linen gray but my tufts are lined up in rows not staggered)

And at Joss & Main today a similar bed, but the tufting looks different…better actually…

and one very similar to mine but a different color and shipping was free because I ordered something in the past 30 days, other wise it would have been $10 compared to free shipping if you are an Amazon Prime member.

Even Walmart got in on the tufted bed action–actually it’s just a tufted headboard, not the full bed for $413 which seems a little steep to me.

So, what started out as a quick intro has turned into a research post on prices. The moral of the story? It’s up to us to be smart and find the best price at any given time.  Also, isn’t my settee pretty?!

  2. Oh how pretty! That looks like such a relaxing place to sit, next to that big window. And thanks for the tip on referrals on Pinterest! I’m gonna have to try that. :)

  3. Very nice! I would love to know other’s opinions on Walmart furniture. I have a friend who bought an armchair there and has been very happy with it. The review on their website have been very positive too. But there is something about buying furniture at Walmart that makes me…..apprehensive. Anyone had experience with this? Is it good quality?

    • you know, like with this bed, I do think they sell bigger items like furniture via a third party, so that bed I have–you can get the EXACT headboard through made by the same company.

Hi Amanda! I know exactly how you feel about furniture purchases at Walmart. I’ve been apprehensive also. However my dad purchased a very large, dark cherry book case/entertainment center from Walmart and it looks terrific in their den. He’s the most apprehensive person I know. After doing some of his own tweaking and special touches, it looks great and it’s very sturdy.

  4. I was just looking at headboards yesterday and saw your style twice on two different sites and I thought to myself “Wow! I love that my friend is setting trends!”. anyway – here’s the two I found… $629 $299

  5. Very pretty! So pretty! The kind of pretty I dream about, someday. :)

  7. Love the new settee!

Is your bed a platform bed or were you able to use your box spring?

  8. Gorgeous! It’s perfect. Linen. Gray. Tufting. I’m in love. I’ve also been keeping my eye out for new tufted beds, headboards, or thrift store headboards that I can turn in to a tufted headboard. And who knew about Joss & Main? Awesome sauce! I better get pinning!

  9. LOVE! How on earth do you not just sit and stare at it all day? I’d never get anything done. ;-)

  10. Beautiful! I would love to get a settee like that someday!

  11. Love the new addition. Did you know that you could replace the legs if you wanted to? I did it for a broken ottoman. You may or may not want to spend more $$, just in case you didn’t know, though.

  12. That new addition is looooovely! Though I’d have thought it was a navy color until you said it was black!

  18. Love the settee! The lines and fabric are gorgeous!

  19. Lovely!

  20. Just lovely! Adds some British charm to your already charming nest. Perfect for any Sense and Sensibility moments and/or Jane Austenesque musings : )

  21. I love the settee! But did you research about how linen frabric holds up on furniture? I fell in Love with a red linen sofa this week, and it said it was covered in a linen fabric. So I googled it, and found it does not wear well, and it wrinkles! That said, I still want the sofa so badly, so Let us know how yours holds up.

    • I have had flax colored linen sofas in our family room since Labor Day without any problem. I scotch guarded them myself, heavily, because I was told the furniture companies don’t really do a good job. That is our everyday, hang out and watch tv room. Our two grans just came for Easter and the baby is a spitter upper so we put quilts on the seats for that vacation. our adult son lives here, we have dogs and cats, too. i made arm covers to match because that is where most of the soiling happens, big squares for the rolled arms that go all the way down to the inside between the arm & cushion due to toe dirt! :-) we are porch people, gardeners,
bar-b-quers…we don’t really get wrinkles…oh yeah, new house rule is no eating on the new furniture & I did switch from red to white wine…hahahahaha.

      • I doubt this settee will get much wear, it’s kind of more for looks and occasional sitting down and me reading books, not the kind of thing I expect my three boys to watch tv on–but I’ll let you know!!! xoxo

  22. SHUT UP!! She’s beautiful! She’s calling my name, inviting me over for a good book and a cup of chai :) welcome to the family.

  23. Love the coach. While you’re trying to decide what to do with it, feel free to fdrop it off at my house. It’s lovely!

  24. great tips, thanks girl. But mostly I just want to say: DROOL WORTHY settee. Love the splash of navy in your home!!!!

  25. Love it! I have been eyeing the same settee for over a year now, to also go in my master bedroom, since my headboard is from skyline, I wanted the matching settee. love how it looks in this color, was wondering how comfortable it is? Joss and Main has great sales, but the colors and fabrics are very limited, so I ended up purchasing from amazon, and have had great experience with the whole thing.

  26. Love the tips- and the setee is gorgeous!

  27. Adriana Maes says

Nester you are the Best! I just love how you explain things! Especially about shopping around.

  28. Wondering how is the settee holding up? I am interested in the same piece but for the living area. Since it’s a high traffic area specially with a baby I have not yet pulled the trigger for this..would really love to hear abt it.

  29. I purchased the same settee, but in a different floral pattern. It was about $600 from rue la la. It is terrible, I would never recommend it. Within just a couple months it developed small holes that now are rips, we don’t sit on it super often and don’t have children. It is very rickety and not sturdy and you need to screw the legs back on frequently to help with that.

  30. As I website possessor I believe the content
here is very great, regards for yyour efforts.
