A Few Easy Ideas for Game Day

game day

For that Big Game, wait, are we allowed to say it on blogs this year? {rhymes with Pooper Schmoul?} or even that small game– or in my house, the Hockey Game which alas, my boys are thrilled to even have part of a season, ANYWAY, for the game, if you are planning on hosting I have a few tips that I’d like to share .

Sometimes we make things harder on ourselves than we need to be.  It has to do with perfection and what we think others will think of us and usually good motivations. But, when we expect too much from ourselves, oftentimes, we give up before we even start.

I am all about semi-homemade.

A little Zebra pop and Kettle corn mixed in with run-of-the-mill microwave popcorn (that way your more expensive popcorn lasts longer and you still get to have freshly popped HOT popcorn).

Nachos.

My boys love nachos, especially BBQ chicken nachos.

Instead of planning on making it all myself from scratch and then dread making it and then finding an excuse not to make it, and then not wanting to invite anyone over…  I make it simple:

BBQ chicken nachos

1. grab a rotisserie chicken, shred it up and mix it with Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ sauce. It doesn’t even have to be warmed up at this point.

2. spread a layer of chips on a baking sheet and sprinkle the BBQ chicken and the cheese

3. put it under the broiler for 4ish minutes. maybe 3ish. maybe 5ish. Don’t walk around and do anything else. Practice patience and hang out there at the stove.

4. top with olives and green onions or peppers and sour cream. You can get fancy and add extra special nacho cheese, but I usually just use whatever shredded cheese we have in the fridge.

That’s it. Semi-homemade is the easiest thing ever. Enjoy the game!

  1. {raises fists in air} Darn you Americans and all your cool stores! Shall I elaborate? World Market, Hobby Lobby, Joss and Main, Ballard Designs, Target, …..I could go on. But alas, hope is near. Target opens this spring in the Great White North. Now, if only those other stores would get their poop in a group and cross over that teeny tiny border, there would be many a Canuck who would love to buy their wares.
Sincerely, from a retail deprived Canadian

  2. Haha! It is always so weird to see World Market stuff in the wild – I worked there last holiday season and rang up more World Market stuff than you could EVER believe. I used to go there for the home stuff, but now I’m a huge fan of their gourmet foods.
Also, I would have skipped those MoonPies and dug into those tasty nachos!

  3. I’m with Andrea on this one! I visit the World Market website often, but can only dream! Going to the Masters this spring in Augusta, GA and have mapped out the World Markets along the way!!

  4. Cords, grrrrr.

  5. great tips! we’re just beginning to appreciate the whole football experience in my house & this is just the motivation i needed to get ready for game day! i hear you about the hockey season… unfortunately, i learned to love hockey just as the atlanta thrashers took off for canada. so sad…

  6. I love a good football game viewing party!! Have hosted for years but then I realized as a big sports fan it is more fun to watch a game with a small group (me + husband+maybe adult kids) because we really get into the game not the socializing. ;)

  7. Can’t wait to make those nachos–and enter the sweeps. But, am I missing something? You can’t post a photo of those scrumptious-looking chocolate concoctions on the bottom tier and NOT include a recipe! :-)

  8. Where did you get the wicker tray with the white square dishes for the nachos and 2 dips? It’s so pretty!

  9. Yum, those nachos!! I am making those asap! And World Market – it’s my favorite store in the world, ever.

  10. HI, just a comment on the $500 gift card giveaway. I followed the instructions and it appears that unless I give Smartify or whatever the app name was, permission to post on FB on my behalf, it won’t allow me to enter the giveaway. Needless to say I closed the window, unliked World Market, and won’t be entering the giveaway. While I love that you provide ways for your readers to win gift cards and the like, I am totally opposed to the way this particular giveaway is structured. Huge fail on the part of World Market for asking customers to give all rights away in order to enter their giveaway.

  11. Those nachos look amazing! I also don’t like the space tiered servers take up, so that fold flat one is so nice! One more thing to add to my huge World Market wish list. : ) Love your new chairs!

  12. Love World Market. We buy all our coffee there – the best. I agree don’t waste your money on all that curtsie football stuff – save it and buy something awesome for yourself, lol….

  13. I love World Market, but hate that they don’t ship to APO/FPO boxes. I’m a military wife who would love some World Market goods!

  14. Lynne in NC says

  16. Love World Market and your popcorn blend idea is genius! We are rooting our local team on this weekend in the playoffs.

  17. The two-tier server is great! Thanks for the link.
Can’t wait to try the nachos. They would definitely be a huge hit in my house!!
    Love your blog!

  18. I have been looking for a good tiered server, and I didn’t even consider that I might look for one that would FOLD DOWN. Thank you!!
